Choppers fly over to their targets and Scotty and Perry realize theyd just shot at their own men, the First Platoon. I gave this book to my son when he was 12. There's action, there's social history, and there's 'the human consequences of battle': death, maiming, depression, heroism and cowardice. We follow him through his tour of duty in Vietnam and, apart from sex which Myers manages to side step, we get everything an adult novel of the same genre would include. The story centers around Richie Perry, who joins the army to get away from home. The language is all used in context and is, in my view, relevant and acceptable. I presume this is because of the bad language. I am told it turns up on all the 'Best of' lists of kids' books, but also all the 'Worst' lists. In Fallen Angels, Myers describes war as an endless cycle. ![]()
